Adrieanna Adams' Story

Adrieanna Adams is a single mother of three children and lives in Lancaster, Kentucky. She graduated from Garrard County High School in 2000 and and was referred to SEEC's Transitioning to Independence for People (TIP) program in August of 2008 with a need for job training, employment and transportation, especially to medical appointments. Ms. Adams met with Tammy Taylor, her TIP Community Liaison Caseworker (CLC) , and through working together Ms. Adams was able to prepare a resume, obtain interview clothing, locate affordable housing, prepare a budget and obtain employment. Ms. Adams credited the "assistance of the CLC for much of (her) success". She started working at McDonald's in October of 2008 and worked up to fulltime during the day making $6.75 per hour as a cashier. Ms. Adams completed her 90 days of successful employment in January of 2009 and received a $100 employment bonus. Ms. Adams also completed her 180 days and obtained an additional $100 bonus in April of that year. As part of the TIP program Ms. Adams future recommendations were to obtain transportation and continue to work and pursue training in the area in which she had interest and competent skills. Ms. Adams was advised to utilize her tax refund money to pay her insurance premium so that she could renew her driver's license and purchase a vehicle to continue to ensure transportation to her place of employment. Ms. Adams followed up on the recommendation and purchased a Chevy Blazer. Finally Ms. Adams enrolled in college after being successfully discharged from the TIP program. The CLC continues to visit Ms. Adams on a regular basis just to stay updated on Ms. Adams successes.
