SEEC Learning Strategy Classes

Do you have problems with staying on task at work? Time management problems? Do you have a disability but are unsure if you should disclose it to an employer?

If so, you may be one of the many individuals benefiting from SEEC’s Learning Strategy Seminars. The seminars are offered two evenings per week, ninety minutes each, for six weeks. Participants should be 16 years of age or older.

Topics covered in these seminars include but are not limited to:

  • What are emotional, learning, or behavioral disorders and the lifelong impact on you and others?
  • The importance of knowing your learning style
  • Short and long-term goal setting
  • Organization and study skills to meet specific needs
  • Coping skills for dealing with stress, depression, frustration and anger
  • The need for leisure time activities
  • Memory skills
  • Communication skills: strategies for active listening and expressive (oral/written) skills
  • Problem solving/decision making skills
  • Social skills
  • Disclosing your disability (Should you? How? When? To whom?)
  • Advocacy issues
  • Types of abuse (physical, emotional, substance)

The class meets two evenings per week, ninety minutes each, for six weeks. Individual sessions are available upon request. The methodologies used are: discussion, field trips, guest speakers and video clips. Class participants should be 16 years of age or older.
