GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this program is to provide individuals with the opportunity to learn or strengthen their basic work habits, to further determine their physical and emotional tolerance for work demands and to prepare, enter, and maintain competitive employment.
PROGRAM GOAL: The goal is to provide individualized services that lead to an individual's successful job placement and retention. Consumer choice in services needed as well as type of employment to be gained are essential to achieve this goal. Job placement assistance is provided on an individual basis as well as with the group support of a Job Club. Work Conditioning services are available if an individual needs to further develop the work skills and tolerance needed to deal with pressures of a work environment. Job coaching and job retention services are utilized as needed to assist the individual in maintaining long-term employment.
SERVICES PROVIDED: Services are provided on an as-needed basis and an individual may participate in all or some of the following:
- Individual vocational counseling
- Individual/group classroom instruction
- Job seeking skills training including videotaped job interview practice, resume writing, etc.
- Job Club support and instruction
- Coordination of community resources
- Work assignment in OWL Manufacturing Dept.
- One-on-one workstation supervision and instruction
- Job coaching, if indicated
- Individualized job placement and follow along for both participant and employer
Supported employment participants are provided with a number of additional, comprehensive services which include person-centered job selection and development and job coaching. These services are designed to work closely with individuals with significant disabilities who may be entering work successfully for the first time. Long term supports including retraining and career development planning are planned as part of services for these participants.
